Death of Wife of Midlands Doctor 'Suspicious,' Officers Say

Friday morning a judge set bond at $230,000 for the involuntary manslaughter charge and $20,000 for the obstruction of justice charge.

The death of the wife of a Lexington County doctor is 'suspicious,' according to the director of the Cayce Department of Public Safety, and officers are appealing for the public's help in the investigation.

Meanwhile, that doctor, 46-year-old Adam Marcus Lazzarini, appeared in court on charged related to another death that happened inside his home.

Lazzarini, 46, is charged with involuntary manslaughter and obstructing justice.

During a hearing Friday morning, a judge set bond at $230,000 for the involuntary manslaughter charge and $20,000 for the obstruction of justice charge. He has to surrender his passport and have GPS monitoring when and if he pays his bond.

The charges center around the shooting death of 30-year-old William Player Holland on October 9, 2017. Holland was shot at Lazzarini's Hunter Mills Drive home in Cayce. At the time of his death, investigators called the shooting an accidental death.

On May 1, 2018 Lazzarini's wife was found dead inside the same home on Hunter Mills Drive. Autopsy results are still pending. When asked by a reporter about the death, Cayce Public Safety Director Byron Snellgrove said Friday it's considered suspicious, but did not elaborate.

Autopsy results for the woman are still pending.

Investigators say when they responded to the home on May 1, they remembered being there in October and obtained additional information while at the home that led to the charges in the 2017 case. Investigators have not elaborated on what that information may be but said they did not have probable cause at the time in October to obtain the evidence.

During a news conference on Friday morning, investigators say they believe other people may have information about the case and they are asking them to come forward.

Lazzarini is an orthopedic surgeon for Southeastern Orthopedic and Sports Medicine at the Lexington Medical Center.
