Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County deputies have charged a man with murder in connection with a killing from nearly two years ago.
Jerry Ernst Ballard, 31, is currently in custody in Charleston on armed robbery charges.
On May 18, 2012, officers say Ballard broke into a home on McLeary Lane and demanded money. During the incident, investigators say Ballard shot and killed the homeowner, 28-year-old Antonio Lavaughn Dixon. The suspect also took drugs and money from the house, deputies say.
Officers say earlier this month they got information that Ballard was the one responsible, and obtained warrants for his arrest.
