DSS charges three with SNAP fraud in unrelated cases

One man is charged with fraudulently receiving more than $32,000 in SNAP benefits.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Three people in South Carolina, including an Orangeburg County woman, are charged with fraudulently receiving more than $10,000 in SNAP benefits.

Special Agents with the South Carolina Department of Social Services, Office of Inspector General, arrested three individuals in unrelated cases over the last week with fraudulently receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. 

Martin Mateo Martin, 49, of Greenville County, is accused of failing to report bi-weekly earnings of approximately $1,600 while claiming $32,145.00 in SNAP benefits during part of 2019 and 2020-October 2023.

Hayley Erin Hayes, 34, of Orangeburg County, is accused of receiving $14,474.00 in SNAP benefits while claiming two children in her household who were not in her custody during part of 2019, 2020-2021 and part of 2022.

Ashley Y. Banks, 36, of Greenville County, is accused of failing to report employment income during part of 2022 and 2023-March 2024, which resulted in overpayment in SNAP benefits of $10,107.00.
