2 dead, 1 injured in possible drive-by shooting off Leesburg Road in Columbia

The shooting occurred late night Tuesday, July 9.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Two people are dead and one injured after a shooting Richland County Sheriff's Department investigators believe is related to a drive-by shooting in a neighborhood off Leesburg Road.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m., Tuesday, July 9, in the 300 block of Hickory Ridge Drive, off Padgett Road. Two persons died at the scene, while a third person was found inside a home and transported to a local hospital with multiple non life-threatening injuries.

Investigators have few details about the incident -- classified as a double homicide -- but have recovered multiple shell casings from the scene. 

Shortly before noon on Wednesday, Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford released the names of the two victims: Dominic Goodwin, 22, of Columbia, and Xavier J. Hopkins, 22, of Columbia.
