COLUMBIA, S.C. — One person was injured and a juvenile suspect is in custody following a shooting Tuesday night in northeast Richland County.

According to Richland County Sheriff's deputies, around 8 p.m. they responded to the Lake Village neighborhood on Freshwater Drive for a shooting incident. That's just off Longtown Road between Farrow Road and Clemson Road.

An incident report said when officers arrived they spoke to two people who said they had been at the pool inside Lake Village. At some point, they heard gunshots and started to run. The two said they did not see who was shooting or what started the shooting. One of the victims had wounds on the back of his upper left arm as well as the left side of his mid-back area.

Paramedics transported him to the hospital for treatment.

A juvenile suspect has been arrested but there are no details yet on what led up to the shooting. It's also not clear if there are any additional suspects wanted.

Editor's note: An earlier version of this article stated that four people were shot. That report was based on an understanding of information released by the sheriff's department. Later, however they clarified their report, indicating that just one person was wounded. In a statement to News19, a sheriff's department's public information officer wrote: In the initial stages of receiving information during chaotic situations, such as a shooting in a crowded area, details can often be unclear due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Consequently, we include our releases with statements such as 'This is still under investigation' to acknowledge the preliminary status of the information. I apologize if the number of victims vs. number of people shot was misleading.

We'll update this story as soon as more information becomes available.
