Sumter County, SC (WLTX) - Sumter County deputies say the suspect in the killing of a man over the weekend was spotted in Georgia, but managed to get away from police.
Sumter Sheriff Anthony Dennis held a news conference Monday, where he revealed that 38-year-old Demetrius Alexander Brown was found in Jackson County, Georgia. However, after a short chase with officers, Brown managed to elude escape, and remains at large.
Officers say he has ties to South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Kentucky.
Dennis says Saturday afternoon, she shot 34-year-old Sharmine Pack at Auto Doctors on South Pike East Road in Sumter. The two knew each other, Dennis says, and had been arguing over a purchase of a car.
"Mr. Pack arrived to talk to Mr. Brown about that transaction," Dennis said. "There appeared to be some problems with that transaction. Some fraud. And we're looking into that as well."
Dennis said Brown pulled out a gun and fired.
"What's more disturbing about this incident is that when he shot the victim, and the victim fell, he stood over the victim and shot several more times to makes sure that he killed the victim," Dennis said.
Pack was taken to the hospital where he later died.
Brown is described as a bald, 38-year-old man with Brown eyes, who stands 5'7" and weighs approximately 300 pounds.
