I-20 Now Open After 'Illegal, Over-sized' Dump Truck Hits Bridge

Officials say the vehicle collided with the structure near mile marker 58, which is where the interstate meets Highway 1.

Lexington, SC (WLTX) - Interstate 20 is now "all clear" in Lexington County after a dump truck hit a bridge causing delays Tuesday afternoon.

The SC Department of Transportation say an illegal, over-sized vehicle collided with the bridge in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 58, which is where the interstate meets Highway 1.

Photos taken at the scene by law enforcement showed the bed of the dump truck lying by itself in the middle of one of the lanes of traffic. State troopers say the bed was lifted when the crash happened.

Traffic was initially rerouted from I-20 East onto U.S. 1 as inspectors analyzed any damage to the bridge. The extent of the damage, if any, is not known at this time.

The driver of the dump truck was treated by EMS.
