ASHEBORO, N.C. — A man is in custody after deputies said he was driving around posing as a police officer in Asheboro Wednesday.
The Randolph County Sheriff's Office said a person reported being followed by a vehicle with flashing blue and red lights on Meadowbrook Road. The caller said they didn't believe it was a law enforcement vehicle either and reported the suspect vehicle turned into a church parking lot nearby.
Once deputies found the vehicle, they identified the driver as Dennis Charles Richardson. Investigators said the vehicle was privately owned and he wasn't an officer of the law.
Richardson was arrested and a magistrate found probable cause for a felony operating vehicle with a blue light and felony blue light cause stop/yield.
He was issued a $10,000 unsecured bond.
