Incident report reveals new details on tow truck driver shooting

The 46-year-old tow truck driver Steven Hughes was shot and killed on Fairmont Drive.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An incident report from the fatal shooting last Wednesday revealed details from the scene the night officers responded to Fairmont Drive.

The report obtained by News19 said a deputy found the tow truck with its flashers on and the driver door open at the 7200 block of Fairmont Drive. According to the report, the deputy noticed the door was shot several times, and someone saw a car speed away.

20-year-old Raheem Jackson and 19-year-old Essence Jackson are charged with murder in connection to the shooting.

The victim's family say they plan to appear at every hearing and hope they won't make a bond.

"I just want him to stay in jail. Both of them," said Monica Hughes, Steven's mother.

His daughter, Stephanie, also showed her support for her father at court today, wearing matching "Justice for Steven" t-shirts with the rest of her family. She said she hoped the two charged would get the maximum sentence.

"I think justice would be life. I mean you took my dad’s life. You can spend your life in prison," said Stephanie.

Raheem and Essence Jackson have not been set a final bond hearing date. Both are booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
