Inmate tries to sexually assault employee at SC prison, officials say

Incident happened Sunday evening

BISHOPVILLE, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Corrections announced on Twitter that an inmate at Lee Correctional Institution (LCI) attacked and tried to sexually assault an employee at the prison.

The incident happened in the evening Sunday, Feb. 2.

The employee was examined at a local hospital and released.

SLED is investigating the incident and charges are expected to be filed against the yet unnamed inmate.

LCI is located in Bishopville, approximately 53 miles east of Columbia.

On April 15, 2018, seven inmates were killed in a riot at LCI. It was the deadliest prison riot in the United States in the past 25 years.
