SC woman charged with stabbing to death pregnant 17-year-old

Maylashia Hogg and her unborn child were killed on Feb. 8, 2024, in Barnwell County

BARNWELL COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) has charged a 62-year-old woman in the death of a pregnant teen and her unborn child in Barnwell County.

Maylashia Hogg, 17, was last seen on or about February 8, 2024, near the intersection of Perry and Main streets in Barnwell. Hogg was 40 weeks pregnant at the time with a baby girl, family says, she was going to name Londyn Charity.

Hogg's body was found in that same area of Barnwell on February 18. At that time, the Barnwell Police Department requested assistance from SLED to investigate the case. A team of investigators, including SLED and local law enforcement agencies, determined 62-year-old Jacqueline Reid was a prime suspect in the case.

Reid lived near the intersection of Perry and Main Streets and the location where Hogg was last seen alive and where Hogg's body was later found. Copies of the arrest warrant for Reid state that a search of Reid's home revealed forensic evidence of the crime. Hogg had been stabbed multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon.

Reid did appear in court this week for a bond hearing where a judge told her he could not set bond at this time because of the severity of the crime. Investigators have not yet said what they believe the motive in the crime is or how Reid is connected to Hogg.

Hogg's aunt told WRDW-TV at the court appearance that the family doesn't know the suspect.

"No matter where you live, no matter where you're from, everybody in this state deserves an equal level of law enforcement service,” said SLED Chief Mark Keel. “Every case is important, and every victim deserves justice.”

SLED’s investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information should call the MAYLASHIA HOGG TIP LINE: (803) 896 – 0281, or email SLED at tips@sled.sc.gov.
