HOUSTON — A Houston man is in trouble after the feds say he cooked up a scheme to steal a bunch of Jeeps and then sold them in Mexico.
Kenneth Dwayne Westbrook, 29, stole 25 vehicles worth over $1 million, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Westbrook was arrested following an investigation by the FBI's Houston office.
Investigators say Westbrook recruited people through Instagram and promised to pay them to rent vehicles for him. Once he got the vehicles, he had them driven to Mexico to sell to drug cartel members, the FBI said.
Westbrook was scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday afternoon.
If convicted, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 maximum fine for each count in the indictment.
