KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) is investigating an incident that left one person dead, two others wounded, and two vehicles ridden with bullet holes.
Investigators say a Camden Police officer tried to stop a speeding vehicle near the intersection of Dekalb and Broad streets in Camden around 4:30 a.m. Monday. The driver refused to stop and led police to MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center on Roberts street. After arriving outside the emergency room, two of the six people inside the dark burgundy 2018 Nissan Armada exited the vehicle and ran. One person was taken into custody and the three others are being treated for gunshot wounds.
Around the same time, a caller to 911 stated she had been shot in the head while driving westbound along I-20 in a silver 2016 Chevrolet Impala. She made the call near the 104 mile marker and was taken to the Kershaw County emergency room, treated, and released with a non-life threatening head injury.
Both of the shootings are connected as victims all say they were returning from a gentleman's club on Broad River Road in Columbia when the shootings took place somewhere on I-20, between Broad River Road in Columbia (Exit 65) and Jamestown Road in Bishopville (Exit 108). Both vehicles have multiple bullet holes in them. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was initially called in to assist KCSO because the location and jurisdiction of the incident were unknown.
Law enforcement now believe the shootings occurred on I-20 East between the 88 and 89 mile markers.
