COLUMBIA, S.C. — A 33-year-old inmate at Kirkland Correctional Institution in Columbia died at a local hospital Wednesday, according to a statement by the South Carolina Department of Corrections.
Michael Dwaine Dover was found unresponsive in his cell on Monday and was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of Dover's death.
At the time, Dover was serving concurrent sentences of 20 and 10 years, respectively, on charges of distribution of methamphetamine and distribution of methamphetamine within one-half mile of a school in Pickens County.
His death is being investigated by the Richland County Coroner's Office and the SCDC Inspector General’s office.
