LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Investigators have charged a man with ill treatment of animals after an investigation uncovered dead dogs in his home.
According to Lexington County investigators, 40-year-old Robert John Jachim admitted that he left the home on July 2 and didn't return. On Monday, investigators with the Lexington County Animal Services responded to the 5000 block of Corley Street, where they found five dogs inside, only two of which were still alive. Four of the dogs in the home were in wire crates, and the fifth small breed dog was dead in a bathroom. Investigators said none of the dogs had food or water.
Jachim was arrested on Tuesday and charged with five counts of ill-treatment of animals. He surrendered the two surviving dogs, which an animal rescue has taken in.
Officials said he was allowed a bond of $5,000 per count and booked at the Lexington County Detention Center.
