Lexington County authorities say suspect accused of offering vape 'discounts' to teens for sex acts may have more victims

Authorities urge anyone previously in contact with the suspect, including other victims, to contact detectives or Midlands Crime Stoppers.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities are concerned a man accused of forcing sex acts on at least two underage teen girls with promises of vaping devices could have more victims.

The Lexington County Sheriff's Department arrested 20-year-old Trevor Grant Oty back on August 12, 2024 on two counts of solicitation of a minor, one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and trafficking in persons, authorities said. The department said the investigation began when one victim's mother came forward over the summer with concerns her daughter had been assaulted.

Arrest warrants and an incident report detail that the woman's daughter met Oty through an associate at school, who said Oty would give her discounts on vape devices. The woman added that her daughter met Oty two or three times in person and was texting a lot by phone.

When the two met in person at Flicker lane for vapes and cakes, the report said that's when Oty allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.

"Detectives opened an investigation, which included forensic interviews with victims, and determined Oty would arrange to meet girls and exchange sexual favors for vaping devices," Sheriff Jay Koon said.

According to court records, on all three charges against Oty, he bonded out with a $3,000 surety bond, meaning he's no longer being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.

The sheriff's office has identified two alleged victims so far, but the investigation is still underway.

"There could be more victims than these two young ladies," Koon said.

He encouraged anyone in contact with Oty for "so-called discounts for vaping devices, electronic cigarettes or any other items to call sheriff's department detectives at 803-785-8230.
