Homicide of local music producer still under investigation two years later, police ask public for help

Around 2 a.m. on July 8, 2022, Tyler Robinson was killed outside of his Lauren Ridge apartment

LEXINGTON, S.C. — It has been just over two years since Tyler Robinson was shot and killed outside of his Lauren Ridge apartment in Lexington. Now Lexington Police Chief Terrence Green is once again asking the public for any information that could help investigators solve his murder.

"I want to let (Robinson's) family, friends, and those involved in his death to know that our Criminal Investigations Division continues to follow up on new leads and that this is still a very active case," Chief Green said. “We won’t give up and we know that the right person will come forward with the information to bring justice to this homicide.”

Around 2 a.m. July 9, 2022, Lexington Police officers responded to a call of shots fired at Lauren Ridge Apartments on 500 Carlen Dr. Arriving at the scene, officers found Robinson in the outside stairway of Building 4. The 29-year-old had been shot several times. He later died at a local hospital.

Investigators found evidence at the scene that led them to determine that several unknown subjects were involved in Robinson's murder and that, after he was shot, Robinson was robbed of jewelry and his apartment burglarized. Law enforcement believes that Robinson, a music promoter in the Columbia area active in the local music scene, was followed from a club in downtown Columbia by the suspects and was attacked moments after he arrived at his apartment.

The search continues for several pieces of custom jewelry and a watch that Robinson was believed to be wearing at the time of his murder, including a gold necklace and pendant with jewels with “Smooth” and “LMC”, two jeweled gold rings, one with “$” and the other with “LMC”, and a jeweled gold watch.

If you have any information about the case, possible suspects, or the location of the missing jewelry and watch, you are asked to contact Detective Corporal Kenneth Heath at 803-358-1557 or kheath@lexsc.gov. You can leave an anonymous tip -- that could be eligible for a cash reward -- at Midlands Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC, online or use the P3Tips app.
