IRMO, S.C. — The Irmo Police Department has arrested a man in connection to "an extremely violent assault" on Wednesday morning.
Police say officers responded to a call reporting a rape on Wednesday around 7 a.m. The victim told officers that a man struck them in the face, held a knife to their throat and threatened to kill them while sexually assaulting them. The victim was immediately taken to a local hospital and treated.
Based upon the victim’s statements and physical evidence gathered at the scene, police say they identified Daquan M. Williams as the suspect. Arrest warrants were obtained for Williams, and he was taken into custody shortly before 5:00 pm the same day.
Williams was charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct, first-degree forcible rape, assault and battery, and first-degree possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
Investigators say they believe Williams may be connected to similar cases in the area and have contacted surrounding agencies as part of their ongoing investigation.
