SUMTER, S.C. — A Columbia man has been charged with attempted murder after he turned himself in for a Sumter shooting earlier in March.
According to the Sumter Police Department, officers determined that 47-year-old Robert Lee Wilson was the shooter in an incident that happened in the early morning hours of March 16. Police said officers were responding to gunfire heard in the Manning Avenue area around 4:30 a.m. that day when they found the victims in a Bee Street motorcycle club.
Police said several men were in the club at the time and only saw the victim when he came in with gunshot wounds. The 53-year-old victim was taken to Prisma Health Tuomey and then to a Columbia hospital for treatment. Police said that, several days after the shooting, he was still in critical condition.
Wilson turned himself in on Tuesday and also faces a charge of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Police are still investigating the circumstances of the shooting.
