ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — A South Carolina solicitor announced Monday that an Aiken County man had been sentenced to decades in prison, adding that he "deserved every day" of it.
Forty-year-old William Harmon Williams of the Wagener Salley area will spend at least 38 of his 45-year sentence in prison for three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the first degree.
"We are grateful for the bravery of these three little boys who stood up to the monster that preyed on them," said Assistant Solicitor Mark Hinds, who prosecuted the case.
Solicitor David Pascoe with the First Judicial Circuit Solicitor's Office said that the assaults happened in August of 2019 while Williams was living in Orangeburg County. The victims were 6, 7, and 9 years old at the time.
Williams would eventually admit to the crime and the victims corroborated the confession, Pascoe said. Williams would ultimately plead guilty before a jury was seated. He was sentenced by Judge Maite Murphy to 45 years with at least 85 percent of it to be served in prison before he's eligible for release.
"Very importantly, Judge Murphy gave Mr. Williams a sentence that ensures he will not be able to prey on children anymore," Pascoe said. "He deserves every day of Judge Murphy’s sentence."
The solicitor's office also thanked Investigator Andrew Hayes and the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office for their investigation.
