SUMTER, S.C. — A South Carolina man suspected of over 100 car break-ins has been arrested and charged for those and other crimes.
According to the Sumter Police Department, while the arrest of 24-year-old Quavez Lee Young was recent, they believe his crimes go back at least as far as 2022.
The department said it suspects he has been involved in 125 auto break-ins but they suspect there could be more. In the cases already on police radar, the Sumter man is believed to have stolen several items including guns.
He currently faces 125 counts of breaking and entering an automobile, possession of burglary tools, criminal conspiracy, drug trafficking, grand larceny, and two counts of possession of a stolen vehicle worth more than $10,000.
Sumter Police expect that list of charges will only grow as the investigation continues and other law enforcement agencies become involved. Police are also looking for more people who may have been involved in the break-ins.
In the meantime, Young will remain in the Sumter County Detention Center after being denied bond on Monday.
Anyone with more information about the break-ins or who may have other information about Young's alleged crimes is urged to contact the Sumter Police Department at 803-436-2000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or CrimeSC.com.
