Shooting on Garners Ferry Road leads to three attempted murder charges, search for suspect

Authorities said a woman and two children were in the vehicle when the vehicle was hit by gunfire. The driver was hit by shrapnel from the broken door.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police are investigating a reported shooting on Garners Ferry Road that investigators believe spawned from a domestic incident. Now, they're looking for a man they consider armed and dangerous.

Investigators said officers were called to a parking lot in the 6000 block of Garners Ferry Road around 6:30 p.m., where a woman had pulled in to call 911. According to Columbia Police, the woman, who was traveling with two children, said she was driving on Garners Ferry Road when her estranged husband opened fire on her vehicle. The bullet struck a door on her vehicle. Police said the driver was hit by broken material from the door but not the bullet itself. No one else in the vehicle was wounded, police said.

Investigators now believe the shooting happened in the area of Cedar Terrace and Garners Ferry Road.

The suspect in the case, 52-year-old Lurekus Leonard Davis, faces three counts of attempted murder. In an alert shared on Friday evening, police said Davis was last seen driving a black Ford Mustang with a Georgia license plate reading SGP 2903. He is about six feet tall and 210 pounds, with gray hair and brown eyes.

Investigators are searching for him and urge anyone with information about him or who may have witnessed the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or 911 in an emergency. Tipsters can also call the Columbia Police Department at 803-545-3500.
