COLUMBIA, S.C. — A Columbia-area technical college has lifted a precautionary lockdown following an incident on campus Friday afternoon.
A Midlands Technical College spokesperson said the campus initiated a lockdown around 12:20 p.m. when a person became violent in the student center and damaged property. The person sustained injuries, but no weapons were involved in the incident. The person allegedly damaged walls and roof areas in the student center with his hands.
A spokesperson said campus police and the Columbia Police Department were able to bring the situation under control, and the campus lockdown lifted around 12:40 p.m. No one else was injured during the incident. Authorities said they weren't aware yet if the person was in any way tied to the college or whether they were a current or former student.
Officials said that the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is assisting in the investigation.
