Search warrant names person of interest in case of missing Texas woman

No one in Karen Miles' family knows who Davante Clark is even though he's the only person of interest in her disappearance.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Family members said they believe remains found in Missouri City are those of Karen Miles, a beloved 61-year-old grandmother.

New court documents are also shedding light on the only person of interest in the case.

Patricia Evans, Miles' sister, said no one in the family knows who Davante Clark is even though he's the only person of interest in her sister's disappearance.

"Never even heard of him," Evans said.

Clark, 28, was taken into custody when Pearland police said they spotted him driving a stolen car from Arkansas. When officers pulled him over, they said they found out the license plate had been altered and he was actually driving Miles' vehicle, which police believed had been stolen from the Missouri City apartment complex where she lived.

Investigators said Clark told police he had rented the car from someone. He was taken to the Brazoria County Jail.

According to court documents, Texas EquuSearch considers Clark a person of interest in two stolen vehicle cases involving missing people. He also has previous charges for evading arrest and driving a car without permission, according to authorities.

On Tuesday, the Missouri City Police Department announced that skeletal remains had been found the day before when they got a tip during the search for Miles. The remains were found in a wooded area near where Fuqua meets the Fort Bend County Toll Road.

Miles' family members said they believe the remains are those of their loved one.

"I really can't say but it is a 99% indication that it is my sister," Evans said. "Every day we kept looking. We hoped she might be alive. It didn't end that way. It ended the worst way for our family: devastation."

They're now just hoping to get justice.

Police haven't yet confirmed the remains are those of Miles.

A prayer vigil is going to be held for Miles on Saturday. It'll be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church on Glen Valley Drive at 7 p.m.
