Authorities didn't elaborate on whether the vehicle that struck Blankenship was involved in the incident that preceded the chase. The department provided the officer's name on Saturday but didn't provide an update on his condition - only asking the community to continue praying for him and his family. He is being treated at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

The department said Blankenship has been with the department since March 2022.

Police said in Friday night's announcement that the suspect was in custody and that there was no threat to the public. That suspect has not been identified publicly. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
