Four wounded in shooting after party in Newberry; investigation underway

Police vowed that the people responsible would be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

NEWBERRY, S.C. — The Newberry Police Department is investigating a shooting that left four wounded after a party that ended early Friday morning.

Police said officers and Newberry County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were monitoring parking lots around Many Moons Artistry on Lindsay Street due to a large party in the area. Police said the business shut the party down around 12:45 a.m. on Friday, and several hundred people left at one time. Roughly 10 minutes later, officers said they heard between four and six rapid gunshots coming from a parking lot in the 1400 block of Martin Street.

Police said at least four people were wounded by gunfire and taken to an area hospital by private vehicle. Police didn’t believe their wounds were life-threatening.

Further investigation revealed that the bar at the location was rented out for a private party. Police are working with those involved in the party to identify possible suspects but said the investigation is ongoing.

Chief Kevin Goodman said that those responsible for the shooting will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law once arrested.
