One person is dead and another injured after deputies said a family altercation escalated Monday in Clarendon County.
Clarendon County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call after a shooting incident involving family members at 2985 Highway 260, just south of Manning, below Ox Swamp.
Arriving at the scene, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound to the upper body just inside the residence. Deputies and Clarendon County EMS attended to the victim but were unsuccessful.
According to a report from the scene, two family members, Salomon Aranda, 71, and Raven Todd, 23, got into an altercation. During the fight, deputies said Aranda struck Todd in the head with an object and continued to assault Todd, causing injuries. Todd fired an handgun to stop the assault, striking Aranda. Aranda died from the gunshot wound.
No charges have yet been filed. The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident.
