One dead in Garners Ferry Road crash outside Columbia

Authorities said the crash happened around 8 a.m. and only involved a single vehicle.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — One person is dead following an early morning crash on Garners Ferry Road in Richland County.

Trooper William Bennett with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash happened after 8 a.m. near the intersection with Arnold Road east of Columbia.

Bennett said the crash happened when a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze was heading west on Garners Ferry Road when it went off the left side of the road and hit a traffic light pole. The only occupant of the vehicle was taken to the hospital but died.

The Richland County Coroner's Office hasn't yet released the name of the victim. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
