Orangeburg apartment shooting leaves one dead

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — One person is dead after a Friday night shooting that allegedly involved someone who tried to intervene in a fight between two other people.

The Orangeburg Department of Public Safety said the incident happened around 10:15 p.m. at 1120 Wolfe Trail, the Orangeburg Manor Apartments. Police said they received a call of shots fired in the area with the possibility that someone was hit.

Based on what police found during their preliminary investigation, the incident began as a fight between a female and her boyfriend. Police said another person attempted to intervene and was struck by the boyfriend.

An Orangeburg DPS spokesperson said the person who intervened then retrieved a gun and shot the boyfriend, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect ran from the scene, and no arrests were made in the case. The investigation is still underway, and the victim hasn't been publicly identified.
