ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — The Orangeburg County Coroner has identified the teen who was shot and killed victim in an incident late Easter Sunday morning.
According to a statement from Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell, deputies were called to the Southern Lodge Motel on St. Matthews Road just before noon where the shooting had reportedly taken place.
There, they found the victim, identified as 15-year-old Dantavious Dowling, of Poplar Avenue in Denmark, with fatal gunshot wounds.
"This investigation is still early yet and we're in the beginning stages to sort out what happened," the sheriff said in Sunday's statement. "We're still in the process of talking with anyone who may have information."
The sheriff added in the statement that his office hopes an autopsy, scheduled for Thursday, April 13, will help provide more information about the incident. For now, his office is asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the sheriff's office at 803-534-3550.
