Victim in overnight Lexington County crash identified; SCHP investigating

Authorities said the victim's car left the road and hit a tree.

LEXINGTON COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities have identified a man killed in a crash in Lexington County that happened early Sunday morning.

According to Master Trooper Brandon Bolt with the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 178, also known as Fairview Road, about four miles south of Batesburg-Leesville.

Bolt said a 2009 Chevrolet sedan was heading east on the highway when it traveled off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The driver, who was the only person in the car, died in the crash. On Sunday evening, the Lexington County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 46-year-old Anthony Davon Leaphart of Leesville.

The coroner's office said he wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries he sustained in the crash.

Bolt said the crash is still under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
