RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A parent has been charged after being found with a gun at a Richland County school.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department said 42-year-old Patricia Jones Javins was charged with carrying a weapon on school property and taken to Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center after a metal detector picked up a gun in her purse at Keenan High School on Wednesday.
The sheriff's department said the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. at the front door, and Javins was immediately taken from the school and the gun secured. The sheriff's department urged the community to practice safe storage of firearms and reminded the community that they aren't allowed on school grounds.
