COLUMBIA, S.C. — Columbia Police say a suspect led them on a pursuit through the streets of Columbia late Monday afternoon.
Officers said the incident began just before 3 p.m. at the EZ Spot gas station off Farrow Road. According to officers, the suspect was accused of hitting several vehicles in the parking lot of the business.
Police responded to the scene and said the driver was non-compliant and drove away.
A slow-speed pursuit began between the suspect and the police that went through several streets in Columbia, at one point going down Harden Street. Police said the pursuit ended on South Pickens Street, which is off Rosewood Drive near the Rosewood Hills development. That's about four miles from where the pursuit began.
Officers said the suspect stopped in front of a home at that location and refused to get out out
The driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution. An officer has a non life-threatening injury to his hand.
Police said the driver, identified as 56-year-old Vergil Glover, will be charged with hit and run, failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, assault on an officer while resisting arrest, reckless driving, DUI, driving under suspension and open container.
