Sumter, SC (WLTX) -- The Sumter Police Department have arrested five people, one for attempted murder, in connection with an ongoing investigation about illegal activity at a Sumter Home.
Detectives with the Organized Crime and Vice Control Unit along with other units worked several months to search a home on the 500-block of South Main Street on Wednesday.
Officers found a suspect in a shooting incident, 16 other individuals, large quantities of crack cocaine and powder cocaine, $1,500 in cash and four firearms.
Officers charged 64-year-old Freddie McCullough with attempted murder. Detectives linked McCullough and the home to a man being found with a gunshot wound outside of a South Sumter Street residence. Officers said the victim is recovering.
Officers charged 51-year-old Ruth Wells with two counts of distribution of crack cocaine and two counts of distribution of crack cocaine within proximity of a school or park. Officers said Wells was out on bond for a previous drug arrest.
Sumter Police charged 36-year-old Jermaine Smith with trafficking cocaine, trafficking cocaine-second offense, and possession of a Schedule II substance and felon in possession of a firearm.
Officers charged 28-year-old Antonio Wilson with trafficking cocaine-second offense and trafficking crack cocaine-second offense. Officers said Wilson was also wanted for pointing and presenting a firearm charge from an unrelated incident.
Sumter Police did not release the name of another person at the home who was arrested on a contempt of magistrate's court charge.
All five people were booked at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center.
