COLUMBIA, S.C. — A man has been arrested after running from the Richland County Sheriff's Department after an attempted stop on Friday.

A department spokesperson said that deputies spotted a vehicle connected to a wanted man out of Sumter County around 5 p.m. in the area of River Drive and Pearl Street. The sheriff's department said deputies tried to stop the vehicle but said the driver refused.

A vehicle chase soon gave way to a foot pursuit when the suspect, later identified as Sherelle Grant, ran from the vehicle near Beaufort Street. The sheriff's department said he was caught a short time later, and no injuries were reported.

Grant now faces a charge of failure to stop following the chase and other charges in Sumter County, according to the Richland County Sheriff's Department. News19 has contacted the Sumter County Sheriff's Office for additional information about those charges.
