COLUMBIA, S.C. — On February 6, 2024, it was reported that a storage facility in the 1900 block of Gregg Street in Columbia belonging to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral was broken into. During the robbery, thieves made off with $50-60,000 in equipment -- including refrigerators, deep fryers, cooling tables, and more -- that the church used to produce Columbia's popular Greek Festival.

Now, a citizen who wishes to remain anonymous is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) in the case and the recovery of the equipment.

For more than 30 years, Greek dishes such as souvlaki, gyros, and desserts have been created and served by Holy Trinity's volunteers to thousands of Greek Festival visitors. Festival organizers told police the stolen equipment was more valuable to them than the cost of replacement.

Columbia Police are continuing their investigation into the matter and have said they were able to collect "valuable" evidence at the scene of the crime. Meanwhile, they urge anyone with knowledge of the case to submit a tip to CrimeStoppers online, through the p3app or call 888-CRIME-SC. Information leading to an arrest through CrimeStoppers could earn the tipster up to a separate $1,000 cash reward.
