RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — A man who is awaiting trial for a woman's murder at Alvin S. Glenn now faces additional charges after allegedly stabbing another inmate on Tuesday.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department announced on Thursday that 24-year-old James White now faces a new charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
The charge stems from the stabbing of a 30-year-old inmate with an "improvised cutting instrument." The victim was taken to the hospital and has since been released back to jail.
White is awaiting trial for the December 2021 shooting death of a 45-year-old woman. He was arrested in January 2022.
It's the second stabbing reported at the county-operated jail in days. On Sunday, the sheriff's department responded to another stabbing between inmates in which 19-year-old Sabian Bryant now faces charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The victim of that stabbing was taken to the hospital as well, however, an update on his condition hasn't been publicly released.
