RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say a nurse working at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center has been arrested on multiple charges following a tip from the jail.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department arrested Jakiera Day, charging her with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and two counts of contraband.

The sheriff's department said Day was caught by jail officials bringing contraband through the front door by allegedly stuffing the packages in a cracker box. Authorities said they found her cell phone, various jail documents, medication from the jail, personal journals and notes to inmates in her vehicle.

The sheriff's department said they believe she had contact with multiple inmates at the jail, and further charges could follow as the investigation continues. Day was employed at the jail through an outside agency.

She was booked into Alvin S. Glenn and granted a surety bond of $10,000.

Day is the seventh person with employment tied to the jail who has been arrested since the beginning of January.
