Richland County Sheriff’s Department seeks attempted murder suspect in August shooting

Authorities said the suspect is from the Winnsboro area but was last seen in Greenville County.

RICHLAND COUNTY, S.C. — The Richland County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man accused of attempted murder following an August shooting near Columbia.

The Sheriff's Department said it hopes to find 26-year-old Marcus D'Edgrick Gibbs for his alleged role in an Aug. 5 shooting in the 100 block of O'Neil Court. Investigators said that deputies responded to a report of gunfire just before midnight on that day and found a person with multiple gunshot wounds at an apartment.

Deputies later determined that Gibbs went into the apartment and began shooting the victim. Deputies said Gibbs left before they arrived. The victim was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Authorities said the suspect is from the Winnsboro area but was last seen in Greenville County. Authorities also believe Gibbs is being assisted by "a network" of friends and family.

Anyone with information regarding Gibbs or his location can contact the Richland County Sheriff's Department at 803-576-3000.
