Lexington woman given bond after allegedly bypassing school security to confront teacher

Danielle Cato faces charges after entering the school without checking in and threatening a staff member. Her bond was set at over $6,000 in court Thursday.

LEXINGTON, S.C. — A woman was arrested after bypassing security at River Bluff High School and confronting a teacher, police say.

Authorities said 34-year-old Danielle Cato is facing charges of disturbing schools and third-degree assault and battery.

Cato appeared in Lexington County court on Thursday, where she was given a maximum bond of over $6,000.

According to an incident report from the Lexington Police Department, Cato entered the school after being buzzed in but did not check in with the front office. The report states that a school resource officer (SRO) reviewed a video that showed her being let into the main area of the school by her child, who was waiting for her.

Once inside, police say Cato went to the school library, where she began yelling, cursing, and threatening to assault a staff member. A school resource officer was alerted and escorted Cato out of the building. Police say Cato claimed she was there to confront a teacher who she believed had assaulted her child by grabbing their clothes and that she was there to confront the teacher.

Officials said that students were evacuated from common areas as a precaution.

The Lexington One School District said in a statement that district and school leaders were grateful the incident was resolved quickly "due to the swift response of school employees, law enforcement and students."

"All safety matters are taken seriously, and we will continue to enforce strict security measures to reassure our students, employees, and families that Lexington One is committed to providing safe and nurturing environments across our district," the statement said.

Cato's trial is scheduled for November.
