COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) officer is being accused of assaulting an inmate who was restrained.
Lashonda Yvette Murphy, 43, has been arrested and charged with assault and battery third degree and misconduct in office.
This happened when Murphy, an officer at Evans Correctional Institution in Bennettsville, was working on April 2, 2019.
An arrest warrant state Murphy "did grab the victim inmate around the throat and push him against a wall while the inmate had restraints on."
The incident was recorded via video camera, the warrant states.
