Search underway for hit-and-run driver after runner injured

Information gathered so far indicates a dark-colored car, possibly an older model Nissan Altima, struck the runner.

SUMTER, S.C. — Sumter police are asking for the public's help to find the driver of a vehicle that injured a runner and then left the scene.

Police say the incident happened around 9:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5, when an 18-year-old man, who was running east on Hauser Street, was found lying in the road near Ellerbee Street after being struck by a car that did not stop.

The runner is now recovering at home after being treated at an area hospital for a head wound and other injuries suffered in the crash, according to police.

Information gathered so far indicates a dark-colored car, possibly an older model Nissan Altima, struck the runner. The car would have sustained damage to its front end.
