AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — The Aiken County Sheriff's Office has announced an update to a missing person-turned-murder case from December 2023.
Investigators are asking the public for help in locating 35-year-old Bryan Alexander Hampton Jr., a second suspect in the disappearance and murder of Jamilla (Millie) Shanae’ Smith on December 3. Hampton is described as being 6-foot, 2-inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, and having black hair and brown eyes. He allegedly has ties to Augusta, GA, and Aiken County.
Deputies had previously arrested Daniel Gabriel Harmon, Smith's ex-boyfriend, and charged him with murder. Harmon was taken into custody on December 5 on an outstanding charge of second degree domestic violence and was later charged with kidnapping and murder in relation to the disappearance of Smith.
According to the incident report, on a 911 call placed on December 2, Smith can be heard telling the 911 operator that Harmon had broken into her home and was chasing her. On the recorded call, a car can be heard revving up and then Smith screaming. A man's voice is heard telling Smith to get in the car and Smith telling the man to leave her alone.
Smith's mother reported her missing on December 3 and a search for the black Dodge Charger Harmon was driving began. On December 5, the Charger was found in front of a home on Cartersville Road and Harmon inside the home. A search warrant executed on the car discovered a substance believed to be blood in the trunk of the vehicle.
Hampton is wanted for accessory after the fact to murder.
