Richalnd County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says a suspect who killed his girlfriend and shot his roommate has been arrested.
John Corbett, 53, turned himself over to deputies Thursday morning in connection to the shooting, which took place Wednesday night on Burdock Circle.
According to officers, Corbett and his girlfriend, 28-year-old Akawandalis A. Byrd, had been in a violent relationship, and several weeks ago, the woman stabbed Corbett, Lott says Corbett paid her bond to get her out of jail.
The sheriff says Corbitt came to the Burdock Circle residence and threatened to kill everyone inside, and fired shots that killed his girlfriend and injured his roommate. Deputies say he also fired at another woman inside the home, but she managed to get away.
The male victim was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Corbett is currently being held at the Richland County Detention Center.
