KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. — Kershaw County deputies are working to determine many of the details of a shooting they believe happened hours before it was reported on Wednesday.
The Kershaw County Sheriff's Office said deputies learned of a shooting on Wednesday afternoon around 5:30 p.m. as the victim was being taken for treatment. However, further investigation uncovered that the shooting likely happened sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. the same day.
Authorities said the victim was shot in the leg and is OK. However, the exact circumstances of the shooting and why there was a significant gap in when it was reported are still under investigation. Sheriff Lee Boan said authorities believe the shooting happened on or near Highway 601 in Lugoff.
The sheriff said they do not believe this was a random shooting. Based on what investigators know, they don't think there is any danger to the general public.
