Woman's car hit by stray bullet in broad daylight on busy northeast Richland County road

The victim whose vehicle was struck by a bullet was not related in any way to the shooting.

COLUMBIA, S.C. — An innocent bystander's car was damaged by gunfire as she was driving on one of the busiest roads in northeast Richland County. Meanwhile, deputies are investigating what led up to the crime. 

The Richland County Sheriff's Department said around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, a woman told deputies she had been at a business at Killians Crossing Road at Killian Road. As she was leaving the parking lot she said she heard gunshots and heard a bullet hit her vehicle. The round struck the rear glass of her car and hit part of the passenger side of of the interior. 

The woman was not injured. Deputies said the woman was not in any way involved in whatever led up to the shooting. 

Witnesses told deputies the shooting happened in the roadway. Deputies said the suspects were all gone before they arrived, but deputies were able to collect several shell casings that were left behind. 

Deputies said they've now identified some suspects involved in the shooting but believe there are more people involved.
