LEXINGTON, S.C. — South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating a shooting involving a patient and an officer that occurred Friday morning inside Lexington Medical Center's (LMC) Emergency department.
According to Lexington Medical Center, a patient received non-life-threatening injuries during the incident. No employees were physically hurt.
What led up to the incident is unclear now, and why the person was at the emergency department hasn't been released publicly.
Amanda Blanton was planning on walking through the emergency entrance where the shooting took place until she heard the gunshots.
"I heard 'pop, pop, pop' and it was coming from inside the emergency room department," Blanton said. "I saw staff members in uniforms ducking, running from the emergency room department calling 'code silver.' I decided not to go through the emergency department entrance and head towards the south tower exit instead. As I was heading that way, I saw others headed towards the emergency room entrance, so I told them, 'Don't go that way; I just heard gunshots.'"
Because the shooting involves an officer, SLED has been brought in to investigate. SLED confirmed it is looking into the case and that the investigation is active, providing no additional information.
