CAMDEN, S.C. — Two juveniles came across human remains while riding their bikes through a wooded area near Camden on Tuesday, investigators with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office (KCSO) say.
The two were riding near DeRoyal Textile, at the intersection of E York and Pitts Streets, when they went off a trail and became lost. Deputies said the boys were able to find a clearing and turn around, at which point they found a human skull on the ground. Exiting the area, the two went to a nearby bridge and called the authorities.
KCSO deputies arrived at the scene and the boys lead the deputies to a location approximately 200 yards from the roadway. Arriving at the open area and the boys pointing out the fallen tree and surrounding brush, the skull could be clearly seen and identified to be human. What appeared to be leg bones and other various bones were scattered nearby.
The crime scene was marked and turned over to investigators with KCSO and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
