COLUMBIA, S.C. — A notice has been sent from the Eight Circuit Solicitor's office about their intent to seek the death penalty in a murder that happened last year in Greenwood County.
According to the release, "The state will seek the death penalty against defendant Joshua Dean Nix for the murder of Crystal Dawn Rainey in August 2023 on Kerr Road in Greenwood County, 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo, along with Greenwood County Sheriff Dennis Kelly."
The death penalty notice was personally served on Nix along with his attorneys in the courtroom on December 15, 2023.
Circuit court Judge R. Lawton McIntosh of Anderson County has been appointed to preside over the case.
A trial date is expected to be scheduled soon.
