Assault allegations lead to several charges against Sumter County coach

Two juvenile students reported being assaulted by the girls basketball coach at Crestwood High School.

SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — A Sumter County coach has been arrested on several charges ranging from sexual conduct with a minor to assault following an investigation in March.

According to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, investigators were contacted on March 14 by Crestwood High School staff who had received a report that two students had been harassed and assaulted by girls' basketball coach Tony Wilson.

The allegations led to Wilson being placed on administrative leave as they were investigated over the course of roughly three weeks. The sheriff's office said deputies also worked to determine if there were more victims.

The sheriff's department has since charged Wilson with third-degree assault and battery, criminal sexual conduct with a minor, two counts of unlawful dissemination of obscene material to a person under 18, and two counts of criminal solicitation of a minor.

Arrest warrants were issued on April 4 and Wilson was arrested on April 6 after surrendering to deputies. He was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center and released on a $75,000 bond.
